Monthly Catch Up #1 – January 2018

31st Jan 2018 by Norrie

It feels like I just swallowed the last sip of my New Year’s Eve whiskey and all of a sudden it’s February. Not sure what happened. A rift in the time-space continuum?January was a good month, reading wise. Since it’s still bloody cold outside, I barely left the house and spent most of my time reading under my ever growing pile of blankies. My coffee, tea and biscuit consumption reached critical levels, and there was precedent of me wearing two […]

Reading Prompt: A book with song lyrics in the title #28

29th Jan 2018 by Norrie

I love how random some of these prompts are. Choosing books for this one was a ton of fun. I came across quite a few titles that would fit this category, but I wanted my selection to relate to songs I actually like, because I’m fussy like that. So let’s rock! One for the Money by Janet Evanovich This book, named after the famous song by Elvis Presley, is the first in the series featuring Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter. […]

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

26th Jan 2018 by Norrie

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng Genres: Fiction, Contemporary Published: 12th September, 2017 Goodreads Series: N/A Rating: 5 Everyone in Shaker Heights was talking about it that summer: how Isabelle, the last of the Richardson children, had finally gone around the bend and burned the house down. In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is meticulously planned – from the layout of the winding roads, to the colours of the houses, to the successful lives its residents […]

Shadow of the Moon Blitz & Giveaway

25th Jan 2018 by Norrie

This January is quite peculiar, because we are having two full moons in one month. It only happens once in a blue moon (see what I did there?), so I figured I bring you, fellow bookworms, something that fits the theme. Werewolves! Let me tell you straight away, I have not read Shadow of the Moon yet, but the description caught my eye and slapped this book onto my ever growing list of books I might want to read at […]

Reading Prompt: A book from a celebrity book club #32

24th Jan 2018 by Norrie

I’ve never followed any of those celebrity book clubs floating around, nor have I been a part of any actual book club where you meet actual people and discuss books. I just can’t see myself sitting there and inevitably ending up in some sort of an argument about some fictional character, or a subplot, or story line. My mild anxiety is already playing up just thinking about this. Thank fuck, these celebrity book clubs don’t require actual face to face […]

6 books to read before they become TV series

22nd Jan 2018 by Norrie

Do you love TV series? Are you a bookworm? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then 2018 will be a good year for you. Bookish TV series are on the rise, and there will be plenty coming out this year for us to pick from. We must proceed with caution though, as many great books fell victim to screen adaptation over the past years. I still refuse to talk about the horror of watching the movie […]

17th Jan 2018 by Norrie

The Wife Between US by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen Genres: Thriller, Suspense Published: 2nd January, 2018 Goodreads Series: N/A Rating: 4 A novel of suspense that explores the complexities of marriage and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love. Ran out of Stephen King reading material? These might just be the books for you

15th Jan 2018 by Norrie

It was a sizzling summer day when, at the age of fourteen, I first came across a Stephen King book. My friend’s dad lent me his copy of Gerald’s Game, and it was love at first sight. I spent the entire day in my shaded room, sipping my ice cold lemonade (actually, it most likely was Coke), reading well into the night. This was twenty years ago, and since then I have pretty much read everything the man wrote. I […]

Reading Prompt: A book that involves a bookstore or library #39

12th Jan 2018 by Norrie

According to the diploma I obtained at uni, I’m a librarian. I mean, information scientist, to be precise. Although I have always dreamed about working in a library, spending time among books, I’ve never actually had a job in one. Based on all the stories I’ve read involving librarians, I probably romanticized the idea way too much. Part of one my uni assignments was to spend sixty hours in our town’s library, and damn, was it awful! I admit, I […]

Norrie

Book lover, cat hugger, coffee drinker, wiseass, capable of eating half a cheesecake in one sitting. Best not to approach before she had her breakfast. Loves a good thriller, but would probably not touch romance with a stick. Based on the amount of crime fiction she’s read, could probably solve a crime. Or not, but she would certainly try. Loves science fiction and secretly dreams about joining the Starfleet since she was fourteen. Hates ignorance and anything with coriander. Doesn’t operate well below 25 degree Celsius.
