Monthly Catch Up #4 – April 2018

29th Apr 2018 by Norrie

In the third week of April, summer has arrived to London quite abruptly. On Monday I was still wearing my winter coat, and then Thursday found me almost half naked, getting a tan in the parking lot on our smoke break at work. Anarchy in the UK, pretty much. We are back to shitty weather though, so all is well. So let’s see what happened in April on Reading Under the Blankie, shall we. On account of having three days […]

Reading Prompt: The next book in a series you started #3

23rd Apr 2018 by Norrie

I’m a notorious series-abandoner. Even the ones I actually like get dropped like hot potatoes, because I always feel like I need to take a break and then get distracted by other books. I have a few of these neglected darlings on my list, and this is the perfect time to pick them up again. When I say series, I mean those books that actually end with some sort of a cliffhanger, and you need to read the next book […]

Reading Challenge Prompt: A book by a local author #20

20th Apr 2018 by Norrie

I figured, finding books written by authors from London will be easy-peasy. Well, joke’s on me, because there really weren’t as many as I thought there will be. London is no small village, and yet, the number of authors who write the sort of stuff I read and I’m actually familiar with (meaning: heard of their existence) from around here is surprisingly low. So let’s see who made the cut for this reading challenge prompt. Jeffrey Archer Apart from being […]

20 Books To Satisfy Your Cravings for Dystopia

16th Apr 2018 by Norrie

Dystopian fiction, just like any other fiction, is written mainly for entertainment. But because of the subject we also connect with it on a deeper, often thought inspiring level. We see our fears manifest in the stories, a bleak future unfold; foreign but also familiar. Women are told they have no right over their own bodies, groups of people are being demonized and oppressed for no reason, people living in poverty and desperation: these are not only stuff of fiction, […]

Sunday Coffee & Blog Hop #2

15th Apr 2018 by Norrie

What’s up? What’s up? Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! Here in London the weather is finally picking up a bit. Nothing as crazy as sunshine for days, that’d be a tad too much I imagine… Where would it all end? But it’s not outright ass freezing anymore, and in fact, yesterday I was walking around without a jacket, so at least we have that going for us. What are your plans for Sunday? I will probably go […]

7 Tips For Getting Over That Reading Slump

13th Apr 2018 by Norrie

There are times, when simply nothing on the shelf is good enough, everything is meh, and no book is appealing. Each time you cast your eyes on your reading pile or your kindle home screen, you just want to curl up and pretend they don’t exist. The future is bleak, and you just sit there staring into the void, contemplating the hollowness of life without books. We’ve all been there. While the reading slump might be scary (OMG, am I […]

Shit Got Out Of Hand – Book Haul #4

9th Apr 2018 by Norrie

Well, sure as hell, this lady – this one here, the one with the blankie – has got some issues. Like for instance she’s got no impulse control to speak of. None whatsoever. I mean, who goes on to Amazon and ends up with 44 books in the span of about two days? What-what? In case you haven’t guessed, yours truly, that’s who. But of course, it’s spring sale time, and Amazon had some awesome monthly deals for Kindle in March […]

Sunday Coffee & Blog Hop #1

8th Apr 2018 by Norrie

Morning, fellow bookworms & non-bookish readers! How are you doing on this Sunday morning? I was supposed to be going for a 10k run with my besties, but all three of us are sick. Hello, Spring! I have a feeling that it would have turned out to be disastrous anyway. Even though I’m not a complete wimp, and lift weights in the gym on a regular basis, I can’t run for the life of me. Anyway… Grab a coffee, or […]

Norrie

Book lover, cat hugger, coffee drinker, wiseass, capable of eating half a cheesecake in one sitting. Best not to approach before she had her breakfast. Loves a good thriller, but would probably not touch romance with a stick. Based on the amount of crime fiction she’s read, could probably solve a crime. Or not, but she would certainly try. Loves science fiction and secretly dreams about joining the Starfleet since she was fourteen. Hates ignorance and anything with coriander. Doesn’t operate well below 25 degree Celsius.
