Howzit, guys?
I’m about to take off for my (somewhat dreaded) holiday. For the next week or so there will be crickets and tumbleweeds here, I’m afraid. I don’t even have a post scheduled. *gasp* Standards are slipping here, seriously.
My Kindle and tablet are loaded with books I thought I might want to read. It’s the first time I actually remembered to do this and usually end up at the airport, not being able to connect to their wi-fi and having to set up some hot spot, unable to download stuff, which is super annoying.
To prepare for all kinds of moods too, I queued up a few different books. Already took a sneak peek into The Mother-In-Law, and damn… It’s addictive, guys! At the same time, does reading about a weird, potentially dysfunctional family such a good idea when meeting my own, somewhat weird family?
Liane Moriarty is consistent, and I just know, whatever she writes, I’ll enjoy. Indigo Hill is yet another book filled with family secrets and some explosion.
Until the Day I Die tells a story of a mother and daughter duo, filled with suspense and mystery. Again, probably not such a wise choice when my own nerves are quite jittery already.
I’m kind of sensing a theme here because my next pick was The Swimming Pool and it’s about a woman who is terrified of some dark memories surfacing from the past. These past few days I’ve been lying in bed at night, recalling all the places in my town where something weird and embarrassing to me. It’s kind of a stupid thing to do, so I don’t recommend it.
I think my subconscious is toying with me for real.
When all else fails, I might just resort to good old murder mysteries. After all, travelling surely can’t be as bad as being murdered. Am I right?
What about you, guys? Do you read differently when you are on holiday compared when you are at home?
Do you have a go-to “holiday genre”?
Regardless of all your reservations and trepidation, I hope you have fun. Or at least get some reading done. See you on the other side Norrie 😉

I’ll certainly try! 😀

Liane Moriety sounds like a good hol read … hopefully some comfort if it is stressful. I’ve not read 9 strangers but enjoyed others of hers.

Same here. This is the only one i haven’t read yet 🙂

I don’t bring any books when I’m looking forward to a trip (except for a journal). If I’m not looking forward to it, then I’d choose something fun, like romance or YA fantasy.

I don’t really go “on holiday” so I doubt my reading would be different. Have fun!

Aw, really?
Sometimes i feel like i’d prefer to just have days off and chill, rather than travel…

Most of my vacation time goes towards when I have to go to doctors appointments, etc. One of the downsides of having diabetes 🙂

Oooh, nooo 😦 I’m sorry, that sucks.

Oooh happy holiday Norrie! And no I don’t change genre while traveling. I hope you’ll have lots of fun!

I tend to read my “usuals” as well. Being abroad is adventurous enough! 😀

Well that’s a good start, making sure you’ve got plenty of diverse reading material. One way to keep yourself distracted. Hopefully, everything will be better than you’ve been imagining it, and you’ll be so busy enjoying yourself, you won’t have time to read! Okay, so that’s optimistic, either way, hang loose and have a little fun. I hear booze helps tremendously when it comes to family! 😉
Enjoy!

Oh, i hope you’ll like it!
I just finished it on the flight back, and i think it was pretty cool! I thought it will be a thriller tho, and it wasn’t, but the characters were quite interesting.

Enjoy your holiday! 😀 I hope you can find something good to read! I usually think I’ll read all these contemporaries and such… I end up re-reading Dorian Gray every time! I don’t know why! 😛

Ohh I hope you’ll have a good time travelling and with your family!
That’s quite the « reading program » you have there, Norrie 😂😂 I don’t travel often yet (havent took the looong ride to go meet Alex’s family YET- which would be my first time in a plane and riding for quite the long time) so im not sure what id pick, but usually I just stick with my current read 🤷🏽♀️ being the slow reader AND preferring going on my 3ds/phone data instead of reading.. eheh

I ended up only reading one of them as well.

I read the Mother-In-Law, and liked it a lot, even though it wasn’t what i expected. I thought it’s a thriller, but it was more like a contemporary, but very focused on the characters.

Hope you have a nice holiday Norrie! I definitely read a lot on the way to the holiday, cause I love reading in planes. However when I get to the holiday spot I very rarely read, I’ll be too busy exploring the city! The Swimming Pool is a pretty fun read, it starts quite slow, though. Indigo Hill’s cover looks spectacular.

I think this was my first time that i actually managed to get some reading done on the plane. Usually i’m too tired to keep my eyes open, but too awake to actually sleep… the struggle is real! 😀

With a Kindle full of all the genres I enjoy, I don’t think of what to read when I go somewhere. I know I’ll find what I need when I need! Mood reader forever, haha!

It’s a funny thing when it comes to holidays and reading. I always plan to read a gazillion books and I am super prepared for it but I end up never actually reading a page 😀 even in airports, I tend to just stare at people 😀
I hope the books you chose were enjoyable and the holidays was fantastic 🙂

At the airport i usually don’t have time between the stress and trying to find a spot that is not so crowded, but this time i got lucky 🙂

I hope the holiday was a good one! And I dunno, I don’t usually plan out vacation-specific TBRs, but the places I see and the experiences I have sometimes get me in the mood for specific genres. Like, if I go somewhere rural and rainy, I tend to reach for horror & thriller. 😀
